New era for SITS:
Dear existing SITS-member or soon to be,
We would like to inform you of an interesting chapter in the SITS-Registry. We are on the verge of rolling over to a more forceful and more extensive SITS-Registry, including several new and improved features. As a result, the new SITS-Registry will help accelerate the goals of SITS, namely enhanced patient care for stroke patients and leading research. The roll out is planned for April 2010. Additional information on the process will be provided to you shortly so please keep yourself updated by visiting the homepage continuously.
With kind regards,
SITS Coordination Team

New date for Karolinska Stroke Update 14-16 November
The Karolinska Stroke Update meeting was originally planned to occur in April this year, but the Organising Committee has now decided to change the date to 14-16 November, 2010. The reason is that the need to integrate the European guidelines procedure needs more time and that there is a wish to consider new data from the ESC meeting in Barcelona in May. Read more about this and how to register at www.strokeupdate.org.

Seasons Greetings from SITS
Dear friends and colleagues,
on behalf of SITS International coordination team I would like to thank you most warmly for your work with SITS during 2009. It has been a very intensive year - besides the continuous increase of the number of intravenous thrombolysis treatment documentations, now over 31000 files, we have opened the SIECV- SITS Stroke Registry in Latin America and prepared for the launch of the new SITS database in all member countries in March 2010. Detailed information about the new database will be distributed in the near future.
As a SITS participant, you have contributed to several important publications in leading medical journals. Together with the ECASS III publication in NEJM about one year ago, the SITS-ISTR article in Lancet supported the extension of the time window for thrombolysis up to 4.5 hours after stroke onset. This was a historical achievement which has now resulted in revisions of many stroke guidelines, e.g. in Europe and USA.
In May 2010, we hope to be able to present the effect of the extended time window on door-to-needle time, and on treatment outcome. We will collect data until the end on February 2010 for this analysis. We hope that all SITS centres try their best to keep door-to-needle time as short as possible, and that all data are complete by February 28th. This may be of great importance for the interpretation of the effect of the time window prolongation.
The next Karolinska Stroke Update, 25-27th April 2010, will discuss these issues and present an overview of all SITS data since 2003. The meeting will also debate the outcomes of the RE-LY study and the implementation of these findings into clinical practice, a new version of the European Stroke Organisation Guidelines on Intracerebral haemorrhage, intraarterial interventions and sonothrombolysis. Register at www.strokeupdate.org.
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Exciting New Year 2010!

Next Karolinska Stroke Update meeting 25-27 April 2010!
The next Karolinska Stroke Update meeting will take place 25-27th April, a change of practice since 1996, when all meetings have been in November. One important reason for this is that discussions about changes of the ESO guidelines can take place well before the European Stroke Conference so that the changes can be implemented at the ususal ESO meeting there, one month later.
The programme will be announced soon, one point of the agenda will be management of cerebral haemorrhage.
